Multimaterial and multifunctional 3D and 4D printing, rooted in diverse disciplines and inspired by decades of work on bulk microfiber heterogeneous composites, enable cost-effective automation and flexible local customization of material architecture and properties in three dimensions. This talk provides an overview of our cross-disciplinary research encompassing tailored multilayers, nature-inspired materials, nanocomposites, 4D printing, multiscale and multifunctional fiber composites and architected materials.
