We are delighted to announce that Professor Amaresh Chakrabarti FDS, FDRS, HonFIED, Senior Professor and Chair of the Department of Design and Manufacturing (DM), Indian Institute of Science, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) in recognition to his distinguished and exceptional contributions to the advancement of Engineering and Technology. Prof. Chakrabarti is an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Designers, UK, a Fellow of the Design Research Society, and a Fellow of the Design Society. His honours include ASME Ruth and Joel Spira Outstanding Design Educator Award (2025); IISc’s Alumni-Award for Research-Excellence in Science & Engineering for outstanding contribution to engineering (2022); ‘Careers360 Faculty Research Award 2018’ for being the ‘Most Outstanding Researcher’ in Decision Sciences in India (2018); UK Morgans-Grampian Manufacturing Industry Achievements Competition Commendation Award (1994); Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Doctoral Fellowship for University of Cambridge, UK (1987); Overseas Research Students (ORS) Award by Committee of Vice-Chancellors, UK (1987), etc. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of the journal ‘AI EDAM’ (Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing) of Cambridge University Press. He is the founding President of ‘DeScIn’ – India’s peer Academy for Design Sciences. The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), founded in 1987 comprises India’s most distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines. INAE functions as an apex body and promotes the practice of engineering & technology and the related sciences for their application to solving problems of national importance. The Academy also provides a forum for futuristic planning for country’s development requiring engineering and technological inputs and brings together specialists from such fields as may be necessary for comprehensive solutions to the needs of the country.
